It’s a grey and freezing January here in the UK, so we thought we’d inject a bit of sunshine into your day with some information about our Australian retailer – where temperatures are currently reaching 42 degrees!
It’s a well known fact that Calin Bleu wraps are particularly breathable and enable parents to babywear comfortably even in very warm climates. So back in 2013 we were delighted when Frangipani Baby in Australia started stocking our wraps.
Owner Jo talks about her babywearing business and gives us her top tips for warm weather wrapping below…
“I’m Jo, a mum of two gorgeous children, living in the inner west of Melbourne. I’ve been babywearing since my eldest was a couple of days old. He and I used to go everywhere in our stretchy wrap, it made shopping trips and public transport a breeze. We moved interstate when he was three months old and babywearing meant he always had a safe and constant place to sleep for the months until we moved into our own house.
My baby gets carried every day; when I’m working, out and about or while we run around with the bigger one. My eldest goes up occasionally, especially when he’s tired or needs to be close to me. I value the time I get to carry my children. It won’t last forever so I try to cherish these special moments.
Babywearing is a fantastic bonding experience between you and your children. It’s particularly useful in Australia where families are outdoors a lot of the time. Whether you do it for cuddles, closeness, hands-free time, travelling, hiking, playing in water, keeping your children from wandering off, injury, disability or for any other reason, there is most likely a carrier to assist.
There is a thriving babywearing scene in Australia and some great communities that have been established to provide support and social connections. When I moved to Melbourne I started going to local sling meets and met some other babywearing parents who have now become incredible friends, supporting me through thick and thin.
In addition to running Frangipani Baby, I have a babywearing consulting service where I provide one-on-one or small group sessions to teach safe and comfortable use of wraps and carriers. I am also a peer educator for Babywearing Victoria, running free public sling meets for Northern Melbourne Babywearers. I can often be found at Babywearers Out West meets and Babywearing Victoria events.”
We asked Jo for her top tips for how to keep cool babywearing in hot weather and she came up with these helpful suggestions:
